SAINT LUCIA TEACHERS’ UNION SCHOLARSHIP TERMS & CONDITIONS A. NAME 1. The scholarship shall be known as the Saint Lucia Teachers’ Union (SLTU) Common Entrance Scholarship Award. B. ELIGIBILITY 1. Applicants for the scholarship shall be financial members of the Saint Lucia Teachers’ Union with no less than six conservative months of continuous full membership. 2. A member shall apply for the scholarship only once in respect of a particular child. If both parents are members of SLTU, only one application could be submitted on behalf of that child. 3. Only members whose child or ward’s Common Entrance Examination result is above the national mean. 4. Applicants must complete the SLTU’s Scholarship Application form and attach the following documents: a. A certified copy of the child/ward’s Common Entrance Examination result slip. b. A copy of the child’s birth certificate and/or a notarised declaration of guardianship. 5. The scholarship is awarded to an applicant whose child or ward’s Common Entrance Examination result is the highest of all the submitted applications. 6. Application forms which are submitted after the deadline submission date will NOT be considered. 7. The child / ward shall attend a recognised secondary school in Saint Lucia. 8. All conditions must be met for the consideration of the application. B. CONDITIONS OF THE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD 1. The scholarship shall be for a period of five years. 3. The scholarship granted in a particular year cannot be deferred. 2. The same amount of money that is paid in the first year of the scholarship will be paid up to the fourth year. However, in the fifth year SLTU will only refund the sum of money paid for external / CXC/CSEC examinations. 2 C. TERMINATION OF THE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD The Saint Lucia Teachers’ Union reserve the right to terminate the scholarship under any of the following conditions: a. If information provided on the application form or the attached document/s is later determined to be false and or a fabrication. b. The child receives a scholarship from another source which is greater than that provided by SLTU. c. The child / ward does not maintain an average score of sixty percent (60%) or above per term. d. The applicant ceases to be a financial member. e. The child / ward drops out of school. D. ADMINISTRATION AND FUNDING 1. The scholarship shall be administered by the Education Committee. 2. The Committee shall determine the value of the scholarship for each year. 3. The scholarship will be financed from the Union’s funds. E. GENERAL 1. The period for receipt of application forms shall start from the day after the official release of the Common Entrance Examination results and shall end on a date set by the Education Committee. 2. The unsuccessful applicants will each be awarded a one time bursary.
